Little Miss Molly
Today I lost my best friend
We spent sixteen happy years together
We raised the kids, watched them graduate
Move out,move on, get married, have families of their own
Molly was so very excited when they came back home
She loved everyone. Unconditionally. Completely.
Always the first one to greet visitors, never met a stranger
She ran away from home once, when Daisy crossed over
She survived 2.5 miles riddled with coyotes…she was a survivor
When she was 10 years old, her best friend Sweetie crossed over
It nearly destroyed her, but she turned to Sassy and moved on
The years had their challenges, several surgeries and teeth removal
The years ticked on, we enjoyed sweet kisses and nightly snuggles
I sang songs that she really seemed to enjoy like
“Good golly Miss Molly” and “You have a waggily tail”
Her mission was to win over Mr B and show him the way of the little dog
And she did.She wormed her way into his heart and never left
They napped together every afternoon
November 22nd she was diagnoses with renal failure
Six weeks to 6 months….life expectancy….but she showed them
Prescription dog food, boiled chicken and beef, no salt
Antibiotics to treat a throat infections nearly continuously
She was blind and deaf, bladder issues and that damn cough
More antibiotics and then one last bad night, bad day
The words that ring in my ears
Are you keeping her alive for you or her?
Tonight little Miss Molly is resting under the same tree as Sweetie
Sweetie in shade, Miss Molly facing the sun, together for eternity
My heartaches, hate myself, mind says it was right
No more pain, no more accidents, no more wet nights, no more cough
Have fun over the Rainbow Bridge sweet girl.
Give Sweetie, Daisy and Maggie a hug for me.
I miss all of you so much
I love you more than you’ll ever know.
