I was optimistic over the weekend. The sun was shining. Most of the snow had disappeared. I took pictures of Jewel and watching her color change in the bright sunshine....and then I woke up this morning. Here we go again. It is snowing like a big dawg and no relief in sight!! UGH! I hope it lets up and melts off before Thursday. Stay tuned.Monday, March 09, 2009

Broken Water Line
Well it isn't a great picture but gives you the idea of what we were dealing with. It is a 2'x2' hole in the concrete. I had to lay on my belly and reach down to dig out the sand, gravel and water. When I couldn't reach down any farther, I slid down the hole and knelt down. It was a nightmare. We had to hand dig over 4 feet to get to the water line. Not only is it hard to hand dig gravel but the water kept fillig the hole. So I would dig gravel and then bucket water out, about 2 to 1. It took 3 days to dig it out and repair the broken line. We left the hole open to watch to make sure the repair held. That night is rained all night and the next day. I checked the hole the next morning and it had given way exposing a 2x4' hole from the outside to the inside. What an ordeal.

Cowboys Velvet Kiss "Kissy"
Well, its a long story but I'll just cut to the chase. I've always dreamed of a black registered quarter horse with a blaze and white socks. Well, she is registered, and quarter horse, she has 2 white socks in the back and a beautiful blaze. However, I am unsure if she is really black, she looks more dark chocolate, well figure it out when she sheds out..
Jewel is on the left, Kissy is on the right.....Kissy is 2 months older than Jewel. Now, yes Jewel is big for her age and yes, Kissy is tiny for her age. I think she is either the same size as Lily when we brought her home, she may be smaller.
She had a halter on 24/7 for 11 months. She has wear marks on the side of her face. We took the halter off and will teach her to let me catch her. She is pretty sweet.
She had never been trimmed so of course my first call was to Jeff our farrier.
It was a little bit of a rodeo but we got her trimmed and she is walking much better. Jeff will be back in March and we'll continue to shape them. I'll get Dr Kris out here to start on her immunizations. Kissy is barely halter broke so I will be working at length to get a little respect on the ground. Right now, she is spooky and doesn't like her head touched. She is a pretty little girl with a very kind soul, very much like Lily.Posted by McKeown Meadows at Monday, February 16, 2009 0 comments
