Very Sad Day

13 years ago I brought this cute little 2 pound puppy home. That was the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
All I could think about on the way home was how sweet she is. I must have said sweet 20 times and it occured to me, "I have to call her Sweetie". She did well for 1 week and then she had a seizure that caused her to be paralized from the middle of the back and all of her hind end. It took nearly a year to nurse her back to health. Sweetie is very precious to me. We had a lot of fun together and a lot of sad times together. But whatever it was she was right there beside me. Through 3 bouts of empty nest syndrome, an ugly divorce, a new husband, new state and new job, Sweetie was there. Through sickness and health, grandbabies, kids coming and going, she was always happy to be my best friend. She liked me. She always did.
Well, today my poor little Sweetie is no longer with us. The last year was a long struggle for her healthwise. She has battled infections, kidney stones and fevers. Of late, she began having problems holding her bladder and had a very hard time standing. Her hips were very weak making it hard to stand and go outside. We tried medication but nothing helped. It was time to let her finally go to sleep and be out of her pain. I held her in my arms watched her take her last breath. She is buried under a tall tree out by Patti's Pond. I can see the tree from my back door so she will always be close. I will miss her so much. My life has been enriched by having her by my side.....and my life will never be the same without her.

Sweetie's last day at home. This is pretty much what she did every day, all day.
You can tell the poor little girl just didn't feel well.

Gus

Proud Daddy

Brand New Baby Gus. Look at those cheeks!

After they washed his hair you can see his cute little black curls. I guess this kid hasn't got a chance with a mommy, daddy and big sister all with natural curl hair.

Abi & Gus

Very proud big sister.
Abi loves her baby Gus Gus. She is very gentle with him and he never fusses. Amanda and John are blessed.

John Gustav Peek - Baby Gus

The beautiful happy couple

Look at those dimples! He is so precious. He weighed in at 8lb 15oz and 21" long. Not too bad for a little man a whole week early. He has a little bruising on his face from only 9 minutes of pushing but other than that he is doing wonderful.

Yes, Grandma and baby Gus are doing just fine. He is the sweetest little guy. Not a fussy baby at all. He reminds me of his Uncle Erik as a baby. Never fussy just content as can be. Amanda and John are lucky to have such a sweet, quiet little man. Of course, I am totally in love. :)

Update on Ruby's Baby

I called Dr Belles to come out a do an Ultrasound on Ruby so we could know for sure when she was due to foal. The good news is she is pregnant, the bad news is she is not due in April but probably in July.
Hannah and Chad came out to watch the procedure.
Ruby was perfect. She just stood there and waited for Dr. Belles to finish with her job. I'm actually glad Ruby isn't due to foal until summer. The weather will be so much better than having a baby in mud. I'll keep you posted. ;)

Midnight & Shasta

After just 2 weeks Tim was riding both Shasta & Midnight. I'm impressed. I'll load video when I can get to it. :)

Ernie longing to be outside.

Midnight & Sky Playing in the Snow

Winter 2008

We have had dump after dump of snow in January. They say this is the biggest snow since 1969. The above picture is the a perfect example of tooooo much snow. The roofline on the shop is 12' tall. Gives you an idea about how much snow buildup we have.
Lady and Maggie have a circle they have run in the snow to get outside and get some exercise.
This is the icicles and snow hanging off the back of the house. UGH!
The windmill is 5' tall. I haven't driven in two weeks. I can't get the car out of the carport. We are driving the GMC 4 wheel drive or we wouldn't be able to leave at all.

Busy Weekend

I spent a busy weekend at Amanda's house. This room was the spare room. It was full of boxes and misc items from 5 years of remodeling. Well, after two grueling days, a little paint, and lots of sweat the room is slowly looking like a room for a little boy. Since my departure John has finished the trim around the windows, chair rail, hung the mini blinds and valance. The carpet should be in next week and then the crib will go up and Amanda can finally wash ALL of those little boy clothes and really get ready for Gus.
Very fun!

Southwest Flight 485

Well, after a long weekend down at Amanda's house (getting ready for Gus' arrival) we were on Flight 485 that slid off the end of the runway. I could feel when we landed it just didn't feel like the other landings that I've been on. As we came to the end of the runway the pilot started making the sweeping left turn to the terminal. The plane just didn't make the turn. We slid off the end of the runway by about 10 feet. It was a rough skid but really not a big deal. The worse part of the whole thing was sitting on the plane for two hours until they bussed us back to the terminal. Well, it is a fun story to tell. :)

New Years

Amanda and Abi came for a short visit over New Years. We had a great time. It is never long enough but a few days is better than none. Above Abi is loving on Ernie. He looks like he is trying to get away but he wasn't. He loved Abi loving on him.
Abi on Tinkerbelle. It was coollllldddd but we had to go for a horsey ride. Harley hasn't had a very good year but Tinkerbelle is all better now. We had fun....
