Walking Out Back

We took Nick and Amber for a walk out back and saw this beautiful Horned Owl in the tree above the pond. Very cool!
Patti's Pond in Spring 2008. If you look in the upper left corner you can see our 14' boat. That will help you to visualize the actual size of the pond.
Bob and I were walking and both could smell a lovely fragrance. We walked around the back of the pond and saw this little meadow of "Lilies of the Valley". Very nice.

Jewel Is Sooooo Precious

Midnight is Home

Still best friends.
Shasta came home the first week of April. Midnight came home 5/4/08. It took all of 10 minutes to become best friends again. It is nice to have them home. Now I have to start riding them....I hope neither breaks my neck...cross your fingers.

Tinkerbelle

Alex and his parents came over for dinner on Sunday afternoon. I gave him a ride on Tinkerbelle. She is doing so good. You would never know a year ago she couldn't walk. She was awesome. Alex had a blast!

Always Something

We don't have enough going on so life thought a broken water line would fill up the one last second of free time that we had.
We rented a backhoe, I dug for 4 straight hours and then.....
.....Bob got in the hole repaired the line. We covered the hole and now we are good as new.

I love when her little ears are forward

Just a few little white hairs on her forehead.
This is a pretty good picture of Jewel's body color

Update 4/23/08

Poor old Ruby...her teats are so full that the mammary glands are swollen all the way under her belly. If you look closely to the right teat it has a drop of milk on it. She is such a sweet old girl. She meets me at the fence and just lets me feel her teats and rub her belly. As we get closer to the birth it will make it easier for her to allow me to be near the foal. I'm getting very excited!

Ruby Is Getting Ready

I came home last night and was surpirsed to find that Ruby has started to 'bag up'. That usually mean we have about a month before she foals.
I checked again today and one of her nipples is bigger than they other. She is getting full faster.
She looks pretty scruffy with her winter coat. You can see the weight in her belly. She doesn't look like she is ready to foal yet. Usually there is a fullness in the back of the belly. I will be taking pictures to record her progress on a very regular basis and keep you posted on her progress. I am very excited.
Now, thats a big belly and nips. Poor old girl.

Very Sad Day

13 years ago I brought this cute little 2 pound puppy home. That was the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
All I could think about on the way home was how sweet she is. I must have said sweet 20 times and it occured to me, "I have to call her Sweetie". She did well for 1 week and then she had a seizure that caused her to be paralized from the middle of the back and all of her hind end. It took nearly a year to nurse her back to health. Sweetie is very precious to me. We had a lot of fun together and a lot of sad times together. But whatever it was she was right there beside me. Through 3 bouts of empty nest syndrome, an ugly divorce, a new husband, new state and new job, Sweetie was there. Through sickness and health, grandbabies, kids coming and going, she was always happy to be my best friend. She liked me. She always did.
Well, today my poor little Sweetie is no longer with us. The last year was a long struggle for her healthwise. She has battled infections, kidney stones and fevers. Of late, she began having problems holding her bladder and had a very hard time standing. Her hips were very weak making it hard to stand and go outside. We tried medication but nothing helped. It was time to let her finally go to sleep and be out of her pain. I held her in my arms watched her take her last breath. She is buried under a tall tree out by Patti's Pond. I can see the tree from my back door so she will always be close. I will miss her so much. My life has been enriched by having her by my side.....and my life will never be the same without her.
